The diocese of Gozo celebrated the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the pontificate of Pope Benedict xvi and prayed for the Pope in a solemn pontifical mass at the Gozo Cathedral presided over by H.E. Mgr Tommaso Caputo, Apostolic Nuncio to Malta, on Sunday 26th April 2009.
In his homily, the Nuncio emphasised that this was a thanksgiving mass with profound significance. The gathering of priests and people in the Cathedral Church to pray for the pope showed that even the Church in Gozo was fully united with the Pope and was always prepared to harbour his teachings.
The Nuncio, assisted by the bishop of Gozo Mgr Mario Grech and the Bishop Emeritus Mgr Nikol Cauchi, concelebrated mass with the Cathedral Chapter, most of the parish priests of Gozo, and a number of priests. At the end, Mgr John Bosco Gauci, presented the nuncio with a new skullcap, who obliged by presenting his own skullcap to the archdeacon.
